Plus they were very efficient, I took it in at 3pm yesterday, got a call at 9am today saying it's fixed. There was also no guarantee that replacing the cable would've fixed it, knowing me I probably would've just made it worse.

They charged me £70 (about $115) to fix it which is far far more then it would've cost me to buy a cable and learn how to fix it, but at the same time I have no experience with fixing Apple products and didn't really feel comfortable taking it apart myself. : Turns out it was the hard drive flex cable that had failed, so the prize goes to /u/bearHD :).

I'll update this post with the results if anyone is interested. It seems like it may be an issue with my hard drive flex cable so I'm going to take it into the shop today to get it looked at. I can't thank you guys enough for all the suggestions but unfortunately nothing has worked. : Whelp, I think this is the end of the road. And if anyone needs more information just let me know and I'll try and provide as much as I can. I'm starting to think my hard drive is maybe failing but if anyone has a solution that I haven't already tried I would be so grateful.

  • Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MBĪfter trying a few fixes from Google searches (Disk Utility, uninstalling Skype + Avast etc) I'm about to give up.
  • I did eventually fix the errors that it found but still, when I try and verify permissions it doesn't finish the process. Verify disk came back fine and disk permissions found errors but it didn't finish, it got to about 75% and then crashed. I tried the disk utlity fix to verify disk and verify disk permissions.
  • Activity monitor doesn't show any unsual CPU usage, RAM is fine, HDD space is fine.
  • I can open anything or even right click on things without getting it and it lasts for up to 30 seconds.
  • I get rainbow wheel when I do anything, literally ANYTHING.
  • It doesn't go to sleep, instead the screen just goes black and it gets insanely hot so I have to turn it off all the time.
  • It takes a few minutes to start up when before it was seconds.
  • In the past couple of days it has become near unusable. I've had my Macbook Pro for just over a year and up to this point have had no problems. Special thanks for the CSS from its creators at /r/Apple: /u/Xapher19, and /u/gouch23!
